Birds

Our life isn't really exciting very often so I don't keep a daily blog. But last night we had some interesting stuff. Sam and Mark, his brother, laid out wood in the fireplace for a fire if we ever decided to make one. It was set up a long time ago. We think there is a bird's nest in our chimney too. There is a lot of chirping coming from up there. So Sam and I make sure the flu (how do I spell it) is shut. So last night Slade came in and told me there was a fire in the fireplace.
Me- "No there isn't."
"But mom, I can hear it."
"Slade there can't be a fire in there."
He went back to the den then came back out to me in the front room. "Mom, I can hear the popping and clicking."

I went to check what was going on. There was popping and clicking. It sounded like a bird fell down into the chimney and was stuck there. And it made plenty of noise for awhile. No, there wasn't any chirping or such but it was working really hard on getting out. The boys and I thought that it must have gotten out because the sounds stopped. Still, I asked Sam to check it when he got home. Thru this all Slade was sure he could see the bird's eyes in the middle of the wood opening and shutting.

So Sam came home ~7am and he had to clear out all the wood. He opened up the flu and the bird was still "very able." He had to chase it out of our den and it wouldn't leave the laundry room. He left the outside door open so the bird could get out when it decided to come out from behind the dryer. It did finally leave. We think, because we can't find it inside.

Now let's go back to my last experience with a bird. I was at the computer in the den and a bird came flying from somewhere and landed under the table/desk when I was and died, there at my feet. I ran away. I had to come back and check to see if it really was dead. I had to find something to take it outside to the trash in and somehow to get it in that something. The experience was horrible. That was about 4 years ago. I was not looking forward to another bird experience. Thank heaven for my Sam. Nature is a beautiful thing, but not if it's dead in your house.

Jodi you are so funny. I love this bird story. Last summer a humming bird flew into Rebekah's room through an open window. We all tried to catch it but then Richard came in and caught it with his hat. He threw his hat over it but somehow that killed it. So we caught it but killed it. About a month later another one flew in and Rebekah did not want her dad to catch it. Finally she relented but kept telling him to be careful. We got this one out safe and sound.

Birds are wonderful - outside!!! Inside they are just a little too scary.
